The Maternal Experience for The Guardian
We photographed Louise for a story about the maternal experience throughout the world. We had packed a handful of seamless backdrops but when we arrived we were super excited about her colorful walls. We didn’t have a ton of time as she is a mother of three kids under five and her partner was traveling so all of the kids were around. We tried to include the kids as much as possible - in the photos or as photo assistants to keep them occupied and engaged. Sometimes we find ourselves part photographers and part babysitters or animal whisperers and this is why we love our jobs because we get to be a part of people’s real and messy lives without judgment. In the end, we took photos of her that made her look like the goddess she is. Louise emailed after the photos were published and couldn’t believe how amazing we made her look especially given the circumstances. She said we were magicians for making her “look and feel like a goddess.”
