This past summer, I spent four days photographing Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins for ESPN The Magazine’s special Age Issue. If you are not from Minnesota or a baseball fan, Joe is a huge sports icon in the community as he grew up here and is now playing for the hometown team.
This was my first time photographing sports and it was a fun adventure. ESPN wanted me to go beyond the action on the field and capture who Joe was as an athlete both off and on the field so it was fun getting to see what he does to prepare for the game. Joe was great to work with – he was pleasant and extremely down to earth, which in turn made my job easy. It was nice to get to know Joe beyond being a baseball player and chat about things beyond the sport.
