Taking Care of Ourselves

May 10, 2007 |  by Jenn Ackerman  |  HIV & AIDS, photography  |

I am reminded today why it is extremely important to care of ourselves, our bodies. So often we as photographers are too consumed with our work to noticed what we need. I was hoping to travel to Virginia Tech today to visit my brother and finish up my videos there but instead I am laying in bed, nauseous and exhausted. I also wanted to visit some of the people for my HIV story but I couldn’t. I didn’t want to expose them to the who-knows-what-I-have-right-now sickness. Many of us are better at documenting others than we are at taking care of ourselves. But I am learning how important is to take care of myself so that I can best tell other’s stories. 1. Hi Jenn! I’m a photographer, a medical student, an HIV researcher, AND I (currently) live in rural Missouri! I just recently came across your blog, and I am really looking forward to reading some of the past entries once I get past my first set of licensing exams next month. Just wanted to say hi, and I hope you feel better! Take care, Jonathan
